Authorities say two teenagers are in critical condition and four other young people also suffered injuries when their vehicle crashed into a tree along a rural road.

State police tell The Post-Star that a 20-year-old man was driving the car when it went off the road and struck a tree early Sunday morning in the Washington County town of Kingsbury, 50 miles northeast of Albany.

Troopers say 19-year-old Amber Rivers of Bristol, Vt., and 18-year-old Joseph Petty of Hebron are listed in critical condition at Albany Medical Center.

Police didn’t have information on the conditions of the driver and the other three passengers. All are from Washington County.

Troopers believe excessive speed and a possible mechanical issue led to the crash. There was no indication alcohol was involved.
