City police have arrested an 18-year-old Washington County man on charges of third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment stemming from a two-car personal injury accident on June 11 on Route 50.
The accident caused both cars to overturn. Two people received minor injuries in the crash.
Matthew A. Gionet of Main Street in Greenwich was arrested on a warrant by City Police on Tuesday charging him with two counts of third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment, both misdemeanors, according to a statement from the city police.
Gionet was also issued two traffic tickets charging him with reckless driving and unreasonable speed. He was arraigned in City Court and released to reappear next month.
Police alleged that Gionet was operating his vehicle at a high rate of speed on Route 50 and hit another vehicle, causing both vehicles to overturn. The crash caused minor injuries to two passengers in Gionet’s vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was also issued a traffic citation for unreasonable speed.
