A driver competing in the demolition derby at the Schoharie County Sunshine Fair was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital after his vehicle caught fire during tonight’s event.
Village police Sgt. Jeffrey Brown said it wasn’t clear whether a collision or something else led to the fuel problem that caused the vehicle to catch on fire. He confirmed that the man suffered burns, but wasn’t aware of the extent of the burns or the man’s condition.
Brown said the man was flown to Upstate Medical University’s Clark Burn Center.
Additional information, including the man’s identity, was not available this evening.
