Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald is holding a news conference late this morning underneath the Thaddeus Kosciuszko Bridge, known locally as the Twin Bridges.

In June, DOT officials announced a $29 million project that will replace the decks on the two spans, which carry Interstate 87, the Adirondack Northway, over the Mohawk River.

Starting Sept. 7, northbound traffic will be directed to the southbound side of the bridge, which will have one lane open in each direction. The first phase is expected to be completed by the end of October. Work on the southbound lanes will be done in the spring.
