Officials are on the lookout for a black bear that bolted after a nap in a tree Sunday afternoon.
Gloversville police blocked off North Main Street for several hours after the 2-year-old bear crawled up a tree and apparently fell asleep. The bear ran away after they sprayed the tree with water.
Police and state environmental officials are monitoring the area to make sure the bear does not return.
There have been a series of bear sightings in New York and elsewhere this summer as the dry weather has decreased the availability of greens and berries for foraging.
