The state Department of Transportation is reminding motorists who use the Northway that the Twin Bridges will be undergoing major construction work starting at 10 p.m. today.
The northbound bridge over the Mohawk River will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Monday, part of a $29 million deck replacement project that will have the bridge closed on weekends for about six weeks.
Traffic will be shifted to the southbound bridge, which will have one lane open in each direction. DOT officials have warned the public to expect significant delays and seek alternative routes.
Travelers are strongly encouraged to consider using alternate routes to cross the Mohawk River, especially from mid-morning through late afternoon Saturday and Sunday, according to DOT. Traffic is expected to be heavier than usual on Route 9 throughout the weekend because of the construction work.
