A parade of tugboats will launch from the Port of Albany and head up the Hudson River for the annual Tugboat Roundup held at the eastern end of the Erie Canal.

The flagship of the New York State Canal System, the Urger, will lead the parade when it departs from the port this afternoon for the short trip upriver to Waterford Harbor, where the Mohawk River meets the Hudson River.

The 111-year-old Urger, one of the oldest working tugboats in America, will be among the more than two dozen tugs participating in this year’s roundup.

The tugboats will dock at the Waterford Harbor Visitors Center and be open for tours Saturday and Sunday.

Music, food, exhibits, boat rides and family activities are offered at the center.
