WESTMORELAND — State police say a 35-year-old Vermont man was drunk when he drove nearly 100 miles in the wrong direction after leaving a concert in Albany.

Troopers with the state police Thruway detail say Jarred Wendel, of Ripton, Vt., ran out of gas Sunday while driving in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 just west of Utica.

Police say Wendel told them he was returning home from a concert in Albany, about 95 miles west of the spot where he ran out of gas. Troopers say his blood alcohol content was .12 percent.

He was arraigned in the Oneida County town of Westmoreland on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Wendel was released on $200 bail and ordered to return to court on Oct. 10. It couldn’t immediately be determined if he had a lawyer.
