All three lanes on the bridge carrying Interstate 87 over the Mohawk River are open, a day after their closure caused traffic snarls on the region’s main north-south commuter route.
The state Department of Transportation says this morning that the northbound lanes on I-87, the Adirondack Northway, are open on the Kosciuszko Bridge linking Albany and Saratoga counties.
This past weekend was the first of several during which northbound traffic will be diverted to the span’s southbound lanes, with traffic down to one lane in each direction. The change in traffic pattern is necessary while the bridge’s decking is replaced.
The weekend work was supposed to be done by 5 a.m. Monday, but crews ran into problems and all three lanes were shut down for several hours.
