A bear is up in a tree on Frederick Drive, a short residential street off Grand Avenue in Saratoga Springs, city police said this afternoon.
Lt. Sean Briscoe of the Saratoga Springs Police Department said police received the first reports about the bear late Thursday night. At that time the bear was seen in a couple of locations.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation was called at 11:30 p.m.
The DEC decided not to do anything about the animal late Thursday but were coming back to Saratoga Springs late this afternoon to “assess the situation,” police said.
A small Adirondack black bear was seen at the northern end of the Skidmore College campus off North Broadway about three weeks ago. This bear apparently returned to the rural, wooded northwestern region of the county and was not seen again.
