The fire in J-Building off Central Avenue may have been caused by a faulty fan in a bathroom but the cause remains under investigation, according to fire officials. Firefighters say the fire caused minimal damage to the attic and bathroom of the building but residents will have to be relocated while the building is repaired. There were no injuries.

Firefighters from the Mechanicville Fire Department were joined by firefighters from the Clifton Park and Arvin Hart departments in quelling the fire.

The Adirondack-Saratoga Chapter of the American Red Cross sent a disaster action team to the six-unit apartment fire. Team members will be on scene to assist with the recovery efforts and assess the needs of any residents affected by the fire.

The 120-unit John S. Moore apartments are operated by the Mechanicville Housing Authority. The main entrance to the facility is on Harris Avenue.
