A 70-year-old man was assaulted by four youths Saturday and police are searching for the perpetrators, police said.

Police were called to the Stewart’s, 515 Washington Ave., just after 1 p.m. Saturday for an assault. They arrived to find the victim, a 70-year-old man from Loudonville, injured in front of the store.

The man told police that he was backing out of the store’s parking lot, onto Quail Street, when one of four teenagers, all described as about 15 years old, kicked his car. One of the teens then approached his open driver’s side window and spat on him.

He then got out of his car to confront them and they knocked him to the ground and began to assault him. They punched him, kicked him and hit him in the head several times with a plastic garbage lid, according to police.

When people approached to help the man, the teens fled on bicycles down Washington Avenue.

The man was treated at the scene by Albany firefighters and then taken to Albany Medical Center for further evaluation. The injuries were non-life-threatening.
