UPDATE: Flood warning issued for Schoharie Creek

As rain continues to pound the Capital Region tonight, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Schoharie Creek in Delaware and Schoharie counties.

The warning runs through 2 p.m. Wednesday and comes on the heels of an urban and small stream flood advisory issued for Washington and Rensselaer counties and part of Schenectady County until 10:15 p.m.

Minor flooding is forecast along the Schoharie Creek, according to the weather service, with flood stage at Prattsville expected to be exceeded about 11 p.m. and the creek to continue to rise until about 2 a.m. Wednesday. It is expected to fall back below flood stage by about 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The region also remains under a tornado watch issued for the greater Capital Region, including Schenectady, Saratoga, Montgomery, Fulton and Schoharie counties. The watch is in effect until 11 p.m.

The watch is an upgrade from an earlier wind advisory for the greater Capital Region that included Saratoga, Schoharie, Fulton, Schenectady, Montgomery and Albany counties. The threat potential was at its highest this afternoon and into the evening, with wind gusts from 46 mph to 57 mph.

The impact could be downed trees and power lines, with scattered power outages. Winds of these speeds could also make driving difficult.

Higher terrain areas would be the most susceptible to the wind.

This weather is part of a large storm along the East Coast.
