Suspect arrested in Schenectady for violent Connecticut murder

A Connecticut man was arrested at a Schenectady residence Thursday on a murder charge.

The Albany Division of the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Task Force picked up 23-year-old Joseph Walker of Waterbury, Conn., at a home at 760 Eastern Ave. for allegedly shooting to death 27-year-old David Caban on May 12. Caban was shot in the head while sitting in the back seat of a Mitsubishi Galant that was parked in front of his home, according to a press release.

After Caban was shot, the Mitsubishi left the scene of the murder. Caban’s body was found later in a roadway and he was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Waterbury Police have told the media that the murder was drug related.

Walker was taken to the Schenectady Police Department for processing following his arrest. He will now await extradition back to Connecticut to face the murder charge. Walker is also facing drug charges in Schenectady. Police found crack cocaine in his possesion.

Walker’s arrest in Schenectady comes after a nearly four-month-long investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service District of Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force. The arrest comes just days after their investigation found that Walker was possibly in Schenectady and they notified the task force in Albany.
