City police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man outside his home on Elm Street early Saturday morning.

Officers responded at 2:38 a.m. to a report of an unresponsive man at 65 Elm St., just off State Street, according to a news release. The victim was found outside of the house and was treated by Schenectady Fire Department paramedics. He was transported to Ellis Hospital, but police said he died shortly after arrival.

Detectives and evidence technicians were investigating the incident Saturday, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Police did not disclose the victim’s identity, pending family notification. On Saturday night, police said there would be no further information released.

A police car was parked outside of the home Saturday evening, which was marked with yellow crime tape.

A neighbor across the street who declined to give his name said that he didn’t know much about the victim, who he had only seen occasionally driving in and out.

“He was kind of a recluse,” he said. “Nobody seems to know anything about him.”

The victim is believed to have lived on the second floor of the two-family home. Property records show that the building is owned by Desmond Katrayan of Schenectady.
