Trainor drops out of Gloversville judge race

Matthew Trainor announced Friday he was dropping out of the race for City Court judge.

That leaves Traci DiMezza and John Clo as the main candidates. DiMezza has the strongest ticket, having won the Republican and the Conservative lines in the Sept. 13 primaries. Clo and Trainor came in second and third, respectively, in both primaries.

Clo has not spoken publicly since losing the primaries, but remains in the race because he has an independent third line called Truth and Honor on the November ballot. DiMezza also has a third line — the Justice Party.

Trainor could have remained in the race because he, too, has a third party line, called Law & Order.

Both Clo and Trainor sought the Conservative line in the Sept. 13 primary. Clo is currently the sitting judge in Gloversville. Mayor Dayton King appointed him to the seat in December following Vincent DeSantis’ retirement.

In a prepared statement, Trainor said his losses in the primaries “caused me to re-evaluate my campaign. I have met with my core campaign committee and we have decided that there simply isn’t enough support to justify continuing through to November.”

Trainor did not throw his support behind either of the remaining candidates. “I only ask that everyone who votes this fall carefully examine the remaining two candidates before making a choice that is in the best interests of our city,” he said.
