A 21-year-old University at Albany student suffered a gunshot wound to his leg early today after an apparent altercation on Hudson Avenue, police said.
Officers responded to 482 Hudson Ave. this morning at about 3:40 a.m. for a report of a man being shot.
They arrived to find the student with a gunshot wound to his leg, police spokesman Steven A. Smith said.
“We have witnesses we’re talking to now and we’re trying to figure out exactly what happened,” Smith said. “Apparently there was an altercation involving a group and at some point a firearm went off and the kid was struck in the leg.”
The student was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released, Smith said.
The University at Albany issued a statement saying they have been notified of the shooting and the university is working with police, offering any assistance to determine exactly what happened.
