Boomers Expo today

The baby boom generation born between 1946 and 1964 is the focus of Sunday’s Boomers Expo at the Saratoga Springs City Center on Broadway.

A total of 78 exhibitors have signed up for the one-day event that will run from noon until 6 p.m. in the city center’s main hall.

“It’s the kind of thing people can come to and get any kind of information they need,” said C.J. Dufort, the events coordinator for The Daily Gazette.

The boomers can also get their flu shot and blood pressure tested at the event.

The exhibit booths range from real estate people who specialize in customers who want to downsize their homes to health insurance providers explaining Medicare options and travel experts.

“There will be a festive atmosphere. We want it to be interesting and fun,” Dufort said. There will be classic cars to look at as well as dozens of informational exhibits.

Donny Elvis, an Elvis Presley tribute artist, will perform from noon until 1 p.m. and 3 to 3:30 p.m. At the end of the expo, The All Paul Show, a Paul McCartney tribute band, will be playing in the large first-floor meeting room that faces Broadway from 6 until 7:30 p.m..

Attendees can register for a variety of prizes, including a Norwegian Cruise for two and a 51-inch flat-screen plasma television.

The first 500 people will receive a BOGO coupon and gift, compliments of the New York Lottery.

Mark Baker, the City Center’s executive director, said expo exhibitors will completely fill the center’s main hall.

This is the first ever Boomers Expo presented by The Gazette and seven other co-sponsors and media sponsors.

Baker thinks the expo will draw a good crowd.

“People are looking for something to walk around and look at,” Baker said. He said people may want to come to the expo before or after their favorite football team plays on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s free. People can come and speak with professionals and then enjoy themselves in Saratoga Springs,” Dufort said.

u Downsizing Your Home? presented by Faye Rispoli of Re-Max Park Place.

u Discover What’s Next presented by Erin Mitchell of AARP about different paths people can take in retirement.

The baby boom generation, which was born in the years after World War II, can be segmented into two broadly defined cohorts.

The leading-edge baby boomers are individuals born between 1946 and 1955, those who came of age during the Vietnam War era. This group represents slightly more than half of the generation, or roughly 38,002,000 people of all races, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention health statistics.

The other half of the generation was born between 1956 and 1964 and called late boomers, or trailing-edge boomers. This second group includes about 37,818,000 individuals, according to Live Births by Age and Mother and Race, 1933-98, published by the Center for Disease Control’s National Center for Health Statistics.
