College of Saint Rose dedicates new business school

The College of Saint Rose on Thursday officially dedicated its new Huether School of Business.

The $3.5 million facility at 994 Madison Ave. next to the college’s administration center houses the latest technology, additional classrooms and seminar rooms and dedicated spaces for internship coordination, entrepreneurship and leadership programming.

The school is named for Richard J. Huether of Schenectady, a longtime trustee who in May 2011 made a large gift toward the capital campaign to build the school.

Huether retired from General Electric after 34 years of service working in various areas of marketing. After retirement, he completed 25 years as a member of the University of Notre Dame faculty as a lecturer at the University’s School of Business Administration, teaching courses in marketing and management at the graduate and undergraduate levels. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Notre Dame.

Sacco + McKinney Architects of Latham designed and U.W. Marx Construction Co. of Troy built the school.

Saint Rose President David Szczerbacki said the Huether School of Business will increase the academic experience of business students and faculty, just as the Lally School of Education did for the college’s education programs and the Massry Center did for the arts.

“We are so fortunate that Dick Huether shares our vision and helped us realize our long-held dream of a dedicated home for our school of business. The Huether School of Business will stand for the college’s reputation for developing leaders in the private sector, both close to home and around the world,” he said in a statement.
