Today is the last day to register to vote by mail and Saturday is the final day to register to vote in person.

In order to register via mail, a registration application needs to be postmarked by today. All county board of elections offices will be open with special hours on Saturday to encourage people to register.

In Schenectady County, the BOE will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with 10 satellite locations established in other parts of the county. All county BOE offices must be open for seven hours on Saturday. This extra time to register is only mandated for presidential election years.

This kind of expanded access is being well received, but good government advocates want more opportunities for voters to register.

There has been a push locally to get people to register before this week’s deadline, including on the University of Albany campus.
