Police found so much cocaine in a raid this morning that they charged the alleged owner with the highest level felony.
Police said they found 8 ounces of cocaine at 722 Congress St. That much cocaine is highly unusual — and very valuable. Police estimated the street value at $40,000.
In the raid, police arrested Christopher D. Smith, 27, of 722 Congress St. He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, a class A1 felony.
Top-level felonies have a maximum punishment of life in prison and a minimum of 15 years.
He was also charged with third-degree possession of a controlled substance, which is also a serious felony.
Police said they also found $5,410 in cash at the apartment.
