Boil water order in effect for parts of Glenville

The Schenectady County Department of Environmental Health has issued a boil water order for portions of the town of Glenville because of a water main break.

The precautionary measure is in response to a loss of water pressure caused by the break.

Residents in the following areas must boil water for one minute before using it for drinking and cooking: house numbers 353 through 417 on Saratoga Road (Route 50), all houses on Edmel and Glendale roads, the Pine Ridge Trailer Court and Glenville Terrace Housing Complex.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills most bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Route 50 is down to one lane in the area of the break, according to the state Department of Transportation. The northbound lane is closed beginning at Pineridge Trailer Court in the town of Glenville, but drivers should expect delays between Glenridge Road and Lake Hill Road in Burnt Hills.

The broken water main is currently undergoing repair. County officials anticipate that the problem will be resolved within a few days. For more information, visit www.schenectadycounty.com.
