New York conservation officials are asking hikers to stay off some of the higher trails in the Adirondacks to avoid injuries and possible damage to the environment.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says melting snow is soaking trails above 3,000 feet, increasing the risk soil will be eroded and vulnerable plants damaged by hikers.
They’re asking people to stay off the muddy trails until they begin to dry early next month.
The request involves all the high trails, but particularly those in the Dix, Giant and High Peaks wildernesses.
