David Zordich made it on the Junior Olympics at only age 14! To train, he swims daily at The Triangle Aquatic Center. He has been training two hours a day, five days a week. His reaction when he found out he was going to be in the Junior Olympics was that he was pretty happy.

“It felt good to succeed after so much training,” he exclaimed. David has been swimming since he was a young boy. When he was 8 years old, he joined his neighborhood swim team. When he turned 9, he decided to start swimming year-round. He always worked very hard. That’s how he became such a dedicated and good swimmer.

The Junior Olympics were located at The Triangle Aquatic Center, which is also where David has been swimming and training, on Feb. 14-17. David didn’t only get to swim one event, he swam in six! He swam in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay. He got to swim freestyle in the medley relays because it was put together last minute and there was a boy equally as good as him in breaststroke. They made the right choice because he is the fastest freestyler on the team.

David had a great experience at the Junior Olympics. “I had a lot of fun on the relays because I got to be with my friends, but also I had fun on individuals,” David claims. He got to swim freestyle four times, and David thought that was great, because freestyle is his favorite stroke.

Individually, David’s fastest race was the 100-yard breaststroke, but as a group, his fastest race was the 400 freestyle relay. David was proud to be the fastest boy on the team.

With hard work and dedication, David made it all the way to the Junior Olympics. Overall, his team placed 3rd out of 15-20 teams. Though he has only one more chance to be in the Junior Olympics, because it’s restricted for boys and girls 14 years old or younger, David says that he would definitely do this again.
