How would you like it if you woke up in a cage only a couple inches bigger than you with wire floors killing your feet and hands?
This is illegal to humans, so why should puppy mills be able to do this to dogs and puppies?
Puppy mills are cruel and neglecting to thousands and thousands of dogs across the U.S. A puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where profit is valued over the well-being of the dogs. Unlike with responsible breeders, breeding at puppy mills is performed without consideration of genetic quality. This must be stopped.
First of all, most dogs from puppy mills are prone to congenital and hereditary conditions. The ASPCA says that many of these dogs will get epilepsy, heart disease, blood disorders and more due to overcrowded conditions and poor vet care. Also, they go to pet stores and get other diseases along with giving dogs their diseases. Many dogs will get parasites including fleas, ticks, heartworms and many intestinal parasites.
Dogs in puppy mills are treated horribly. They are in overpopulated areas, either outdoors exposed to the elements or inside cages only a couple inches bigger than they are. Many cages even have wire floors for easy waste disposal. Many will not even feel sun on their backs or a breath of fresh air. Dogs will never experience treats, toys, exercise or even basic grooming. Also, puppies will be removed from their mother within weeks of age, when the first couple of months are critical for social purposes. Overall, they are treated horribly so the owner does not have to do as much work.
Puppy mill survivors show behavior problems more often than not. Many of these will have fearful behavior along with aggression because of lack of social behavior. Since they are removed from a family, they are shy, scared and have anxiety.
Please help these poor dogs. Take the pledge to never shop at a store that sells puppies unless they are from a shelter, even if you’re just buying toys or treats. You could adopt a puppy mill survivor or make a donation to ASPCA or another anti-animal-abuse group. Please help these poor puppies today
