Have you ever wondered about who got your favorite baseball players to the major leagues? Well I know I had, and I also know someone who does that same exact job.
His name is Jim Howard, scout in the major leagues for the Baltimore Orioles. He is in the Major League Baseball Scout Hall of Fame.
“It’s a great honor as well as a great achievement to be in the Professional Scout Hall of Fame,” says Jim Howard.
Jim Howard has a plaque on the wall at the Scout Hall of Fame.
He played in the minor leagues for the Toronto Blue Jays AA and A baseball teams, and also played in the minor leagues for the New York Yankees in AA baseball.
In 1983, he was drafted by Baltimore Orioles in the sixth round, but he said no to the offer. Then again, in 1984, Jim Howard was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 19th round, and again he said no to the offer.
After that, Jim Howard still wanted to find a way to stay in the major leagues, so Jim Howard became a scout for the Baltimore Orioles. He scouted famous Baltimore Orioles closer Jim Johnson, who was a star in 2012. Jim Howard also scouted famous pitcher Erik Bedard, who has been on many teams as a pitcher, not just a pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles.
Jim Howard said, “I cannot imagine where I would be otherwise.”
Wow! I think I know what I’m going to do when I grow up.
