Did you know that doctors are a part of football teams?
My uncle, Dave Linter, is a doctor for the Houston Texans. The Houston Texans are a professional football team. My uncle got the job when the Texans saw my uncle’s skills when he was working with the Astros. The Astros are a baseball team in Texas.
My uncle said, “The most common injury is a bruise, and it helps to put ice on it. Sometimes the players get a sprained knee, and I give surgery or other employees give therapy.”
My uncle is not just a doctor; he is an orthopedist. Orthopedic doctors specialize in diagnosis and treatment of problems in the muscle and bone. He takes care of the players before the games, gives surgery and goes to the combines. A combine is where the teams pick their players.
“The worst part of my job is that it can get confusing. Sometimes there are problems in the middle of the night that I have to deal with,” he said.
My uncle has to travel a lot with the team, so he can’t see his family that much.
“I get very joyful when the team gets far in the season and when I help people with their problems,” he said.
My uncle wanted to be an orthopedist because he thought that it would be interesting each day with each patient.
My uncle loves his job because he loves football and the medical business and he could do both. Dave Linter, my uncle, is inspiring to me to be a doctor or orthopedist and then maybe get hired for a football team.
