A 36-year-old inmate was found dead this morning in his cell at the Albany County jail.
Demearle Gulledge of Pamelia died of asphyxia from hanging. Correction officers found him unresponsive in his cell during a shift change count at around 6:50 a.m., and immediately began CPR.
Jail medical staff and Colonie EMS responded and pronounced him dead at 7:09 a.m.
Gulledge lived about 10 miles outside Watertown before he was incarcerated for second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief in Jefferson County.
An investigation into his death continues.
