New traffic patterns will go into place June 8 when work is scheduled for the western tunnel roadways under the Swan Street Building.

New York State Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn M. Destito said in a statement that the work involves structural repairs to the road deck and parking levels beneath the highway. Work is supposed to be completed by the end of October.

Preparation work on the roadway and Swan Street garage will begin Saturday and is expected to take about two weeks, with traffic lane shifts required to accommodate the work.

Tenant and visitor parking will not be affected by the work, but a new traffic pattern and detours will be put in place to access Interstate 787 and the Empire State Plaza underground parking lots. There will be no vehicle entrance into the south tunnel from lower Swan Street and no through traffic from westbound tunnel lane onto Upper Swan Street. Other traffic will be rerouted through local streets.

Traffic signs and electronic messages will be posted along main routes in downtown Albany and on I-787.
