An Albany man has been arrested after police say he attempted to murder the passengers of a pickup truck that had stopped at an intersection May 5.

Police say Carlos Arroyo, 33, fired several bullets from a handgun into the truck while it was stopped at Livingston Avenue and Thorton Street around 8 that Sunday evening.

Shortly after the incident, officers noticed the truck being driven erratically and stopped the driver at the intersection of Manning Boulevard and West Lawrence Street, according to a news release issued today.

As officers approached, they observed gunshot damage to the vehicle and learned that the backseat passenger — a 22-year-old man — had sustained a cut to his back. It was later determined that one of the bullets sent a piece of metal from the truck into his back.

The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital and has since been released, according to the release.

Arroyo was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and sent to Albany County Jail.
