The Alliance Party has decided to cross-endorse two Republican candidates for the Schenectady City Council race.

The party cross-endorsed Joseph Kelleher and Joseph Lazzari.

The party did not endorse the other GOP candidate, Mary McClaine. The party also did not choose any candidate of its own.

Previously, Alliance Party founder Roger Hull had said the party would endorse its own slate, irrespective of the Republican nominations. But Republicans urged Hull to join them and work together in a concerted effort to beat the Democrats, who currently hold six of the seven council seats.

Three seats are up in this year’s election. The Democratic nominees are John Mootooveren and Council members Carl Erikson and Marion Porterfield.
