The storm that hit the Capital Region on Wednesday night spawned a tornado in part of Schoharie County.

A tornado with a maximum wind speed of 100 miles per hour struck the Summit and East Jeffererson areas a little after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a public information statement from the National Weather Service released this afternoon. This was the second declared location of a tornado, with a stronger version hitting parts of Montgomery and Schenectady counties.

The tornado in Schoharie County had an estimated path width of 200 yards and a path length of 2 miles. It was a brief touchdown that knocked down dozens of trees.

A final review of the storm is pending additional data being gathered by the weather service.
