An Albany man has been charged with murdering his wife, who was found dead of multiple stab wounds in her bedroom closet last week, city police said today.
Albany police are reporting that 41-year-old Robert L. Williams was located today in New York City and brought back to the city of Albany to speak with detectives regarding the death of his wife, 37-year-old Sharene Wallace.
Police had been trying to track down Williams’ whereabouts ever since Wallace was found dead inside her apartment at 279 Sherman St. the night of May 29. Her death was called in as an “unattended death,” but police quickly determined she had been murdered.
On Monday, police disclosed the cause of her death: multiple stab wounds. They reiterated their desire to speak with Williams, who used to live on Quail Street in Albany. They reported that he was a level 2 registered sex offender under the supervision of the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and wanted for a parole violation. His wife also was on parole at the time of her death.
Williams is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Albany City Court.
The United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and New York Police Department assisted Albany police in the investigation.
