FLOOD: Flash flooding remains a possibility

The Mohawk River in Schenectady is projected to rise three feet before today is over, according to projections from the National Weather Service.

Currently about a foot below the “near flood stage” level, the river is expected to rise this afternoon into “near flood stage” level and begin decreasing early Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service has a flash flood watch in effect until 8 p.m. for most of the Capital Region, including Schenectady.

A weak stationary front is expected to drift northwest through the region today, which will cause showers and scattered thunderstorms. Additional precipitation in the evening could add one inch to two inches of rain in the area.

One positive sign for Montgomery County is the projected decrease in water level of the Mohawk River in Little Falls, which flows east through the county.
