Body confirmed as missing woman's

The body found Sunday in Schenectady was that of Mary Wright, a city woman missing for more than a week, police said Monday morning.

The body was found in a wooded area off Albany Street near Bradford Road around 2 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Wright, 68, who suffered from dementia, wandered off from her Queens Drive apartment early June 28. Family, friends and police searched for her in the days after.

An autopsy conducted Sunday could not determine a cause or exact time of death, but police said it does not appear foul play was involved.

Wright also suffered from insulin-dependent diabetes and high blood pressure.

Police on Friday had asked the public again for help finding Wright. She was last seen just after midnight June 28 by her daughter Bridget Lewis, who then awoke about three hours later to find Wright gone.

Wright had been diagnosed with dementia in early 2012, and after that Lewis stayed with her mother to watch after her.

Lewis also said her mother frequented St. Joseph Cemetery, which was within walking distance of Queens Drive. The area where her body was found is on the opposite side of the cemetery from Wright’s apartment.

In the days after Wright went missing, police, with help from state forest rangers and volunteers, searched wooded areas near Wright’s home, the Woodlawn Drainage Project, as well as Vale Cemetery and Vale Park. A state police dive team also searched the ponds at Vale Park.
