ALBANY — A 21-year-old man described in court as mentally disabled has been sentenced to 16 years to life in prison for leading an 8-year-old boy into the woods and raping him near an Albany park.
Walter Cleveland was sentenced in Albany County Court on Thursday. The child’s parents demanded the maximum punishment for Cleveland for the 2012 crime.
Cleveland said before sentencing that he was sorry for what he did and that he hopes he can get mental help.
The public defender had asked for a 15-year sentence, citing his client’s documented psychiatric issues.
