“Pickleball” enthusiasts gather at the Wilton Recreation Center at Gavin Park on Mondays to stay active and share their passion for the sport. Pickleball is very similar to tennis, but there are differences that make the game more accessible to a wider range of players, particularly seniors.
“Pickleball” is a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a double badminton court. The net is similar to a table net, but it is mounted two inches lower. The game is played with a hard paddle and polymer wiffle ball. Pickleballs typically move at one third of the speed of a tennis ball.
The size of the court is just under one third of the total area of a tennis court. This smaller area combined with the slower moving ball makes pickleball much easier to play than tennis.
