A second man has now been arrested in a scheme that authorities say involved the repeated rape of a child.
Neal D. Sommers, 27, of Albany, was formally charged Thursday with multiple counts, including predatory sexual assault against a child, state police spokesman Trooper Mark J. Cepiel said.
Charges against Sommers follow the April 10 arrest of Tribes Hill resident David A. Andrews, 61. He faces the same charges as Sommers, as well as two other counts.
Andrews is accused of arranging over the Internet to provide Sommers with a child under the age of 13 to rape twice, state police said.
Andrews also is charged with raping the child on multiple occasions over the course of several months.
Police began investigating the two through leads developed by the state police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Andrews faces one count each of first-degree rape, first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and first-degree criminal sexual act. Each count carries a possible sentence of up to 25 years in state prison upon conviction.
Andrews also faces the predatory sexual assault count.
Sommers faces one count each of first-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual act, along with the predatory sexual assault count.
Andrews was arraigned earlier this month and ordered held on $50,000 bail.
Sommers is in custody on an unrelated count. He is to make his next appearance in Mohawk Town Court on May 6.
