The cities of Albany and Schenectady are among the happiest places in New York, according to CreditDonkey.
CreditDonkey, a credit card comparison company, released a study of the top 10 happiest cities in the state, which ranked Schenectady eighth happiest and Albany third happiest.
The top 10 happiest cities, in order of happiness, are New Rochelle, Cheektowaga, Albany, Yonkers, Syracuse, New York City, Mount Vernon, Schenectady, Buffalo and Rochester. The study looked at unemployment data, median household income, average commute time and the number of early risers in cities statewide.
According to CreditDonkey, 7.5 percent of Schenectady residents wake up before 5 a.m. with an average commute time of 25 minutes. The study also lists Schenectady’s median household income at $36,225 with a 13.5 percent unemployment rate.
Albany ranked third happiest in the state with a “better then average unemployment rate” of 9.3 percent, $40,404 median income, an average commute time of about 18 minutes and 5.2 percent of people who wake up before 5 a.m. everyday.
The study says, “Just north of Albany is Schenectady. Thomas Edison founded the company that would eventually become General Electric here, and it’s a good thing: A lot of folks in Schenectady need light from Edison’s most famous invention while they’re trying to get ready for work at 4 a.m. in the morning.”
