The victim of a Fremont Street break-in, beating and shooting remained in Nathan Littauer Hospital on Wednesday, said city police, who are trying to find a second victim in the assault, as well as three suspects.

The assailants put a couch cushion over the head of one victim and fired a round through it, grazing his face, police said.

The first victim, who has not been identified by authorities, told police he answered his door at 77 Fremont St. at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday to be greeted by a man who pistol-whipped him in the head and ordered him on the ground. Two other male assailants then entered the apartment and began to beat the 33-year-old with fists, feet and a hammer, then bound the victim and continued the assault.

The trio demanded money and drugs they believed were in the apartment, police said.

Police said the victim told authorities there was a second victim in the house, known only as Cliff from Utica, who was also severely beaten with a hammer.

The second man, described as a black male, 5 feet, 10 inches and 160 pounds, has not been located.

Anyone with information regarding the attack is asked to contact city police at 773-4505 or the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department at 736-2100.
