EAST AURORA, N.Y. — A public debate is underway in a western New York community over whether the former home of the founder of the Fisher-Price toy company should be preserved or demolished.
The owner of Irving Price’s 19th-century home wants to demolish the aging house and another next door to make way for a parking lot for his neighboring Italian restaurant.
But some residents in the Buffalo-area village known for its architecture are opposed to the plan. Many of them turned out Thursday night for the East Aurora Historic Commission’s public hearing on the merits of historic designations.
The commission voted to recommend local historic landmark status for the Price house and the one next door. The village board will make the final decision on whether the business owner can go through with his plans.
