A pedestrian on the Thruway in Albany was struck and killed by a passing tractor trailer Sunday night, state police said.
The man was struck at about 10 p.m. at mile marker 143. Preliminary indications were he was alone and in the center lane of the three southbound lanes, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the cause of the accident, as well as the identity of the pedestrian, were ongoing this morning, police said. The state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating.
State police, the Albany Fire Department, Mohawk Ambulance and the Thruway Authority responded at the scene.
Southbound traffic was rerouted afterward to Interstate 90 and Interstate 787. Traffic flow returned to normal early this morning with the reopening of the stretch of Interstate 87.
