The pedestrian killed on the Thruway in Albany Sunday night was identified this morning by state police as a man from Rome, NY.
State police are still investigating, however, why he was there.
David M. Miller, 28, of Rome, was alone in the center of three southbound lanes Sunday night at about 10 p.m. when he was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer.
The semi was driven by a 40-year-old man from Freeville, NY. His name was not released. No charges have been filed.
Miller was hit at mile marker 143 of Interstate 87. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the cause of the accident continue today, police said. The state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating.
State police, the Albany Fire Department, Mohawk Ambulance and the Thruway Authority responded to the scene.
Southbound traffic was rerouted afterward to Interstate 90 and Interstate 787. Traffic flow returned to normal early this morning with the reopening of the stretch of Interstate 87.
