LAKE GEORGE — The longtime leader of archaeological digs at upstate New York 18th-century military sites has a new book out that details decades of excavations at Lake George.
“The Legacy of Fort William Henry” by David Starbuck was published recently by University Press of New England.
Starbuck has been leading summertime archaeological field schools at historical sites along the upper Hudson River and the Lake George region since the early 1990s. His latest book focuses on the excavations conducted at Fort William Henry, the tourism attraction constructed on the site of the original fortification built and later destroyed during the French and Indian War.
Starbuck’s book includes information on his findings from more recent excavations at the fort, scene of the real-life events depicted in “The Last of the Mohicans.”
