A poll released as New York state Democrats nominate Gov. Andrew Cuomo for re-election shows growing support for public campaign financing for statewide elections.
A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday finds 46 percent of voters support matching small donor contributions with state funds. That’s up from 38 percent in November. Meanwhile, 44 percent oppose it.
The poll shows 55 percent of voters think state government is dysfunctional, as opposed to 38 percent who disagree. A total of 81 percent of voters say government corruption is “very serious” or “somewhat serious.”
Thirty-seven percent of voters say Cuomo is doing an excellent or good job cleaning up corruption, while 51 percent say it’s “not so good” or “poor.”
The telephone poll of 1,129 New York voters was conducted May 14-19 and has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
