A series of overnight burglaries have Schenectady police advising residents to make sure their homes are secured.
The three burglaries happened in the Mont Pleasant and Central State Street neighborhoods. All involved single-family homes that were occupied at the time of the break-ins.
Two of the burglaries were on 21st Street and one on Watt Street. While in different neighborhoods, the locations are on opposite sides of Interstate 890, connected by a tunnel under the highway.
The same method of entry was reported in each incident — an unsecured window toward the rear of the house — police said. That, the timing and location lead police to believe the burglaries are connected.
Aa wallet, purse, cash, jewelry and video game systems were stolen, police said.
Schenectady police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken suggested residents secure windows and doors and set home security systems. Exterior lights should also be left on.
Anyone with information on the break-ins is asked to contact the police department’s detective division at 382-5245.
The overnight burglaries come after neighboring Rotterdam reported four break-ins in the past two weeks in the Colonial Manor section of town, Rotterdam police spokesman Lt. Michael Brown said. That area is just down Hamburg Street from the 21st Street break-ins, though not nearby.
Brown said entry was made through unsecured doors and in one case, a basement window.
Cash, small electronics and other items were stolen in those burglaries, Brown said.
