The eastern section of the Erie Canal is set to reopen after being shut down by high water levels caused by last week’s heavy rains.

The state Canal Corp. says the Erie Canal between Lock E-16 at St. Johnsville in the Mohawk Valley to E-22 at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake’s eastern end is scheduled to reopen at noon Monday.

The canal from Lock E-7 at Vischer Ferry on the Mohawk River to E-16 is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Canal system officials announced Saturday morning that the eastern stretch of the waterway had been closed due to the week’s heavy rainfall that caused high water levels from the Albany area to central New York.
