Police say marijuana sales were made near Galway school

Galway village police made five arrests early Saturday stemming from a two-month investigation into marijuana sales they said are taking place near the Galway Central School grounds.

The arrests followed execution of a search warrant early Saturday at a suspect’s home on Galway Lake.

A Brooklyn man was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana, as were four teenagers, three of them from the Galway area, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are likely, said Galway police Capt. Richard Schoonmaker.

“This shows you New York [City] people are coming out into the country,” he said Monday. “It all happened around the time of school closing.”

Such arrests are highly unusual in Galway, a country crossroads in western Saratoga County with a village population of barely 200. The surrounding town of Galway has about 3,500 people; the school sits along Route 147 on the village-town line.

Those arrested were Michael A. Tucker, 31, of Brooklyn; Raymond Meyer, 17, of Lake Road, Galway; Cameron C. Fraumane, 18, of Sacandaga Road, Galway; Rebecca Atkinson, 17, of Fishhouse Road, Galway; and Brianna Perez, 17, of South Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville. All were charged with violation-level possession of marijuana, police said.

Schoonmaker wasn’t sure if any of them were current students at Galway High School, but said at least one graduated last year.

There was no response late Monday to a request for comment from the Galway Central School District.

Village police said they executed a search warrant early Saturday at Meyer’s home. The warrant, executed with the cooperation of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office accompanied by a police dog, resulted in the seizure of an undisclosed amount of marijuana, scales, and drug pipes, Police Chief Leslie Klein said in a news release.

All five people will answer the charges in Galway Town Court on Thursday, police said.
