The Union women’s hockey team will help Rochester Institute of Technology open its new Gene Polisseni Center when it begins the 2014-15 regular season there, the Dutchwomen announced Monday.

The games will be played there Oct. 3 and 4.

Union, which will host the Ottawa Jr. Senators in an exhibition game Sept. 27 at Messa Rink, will play its regular-season home opener Oct. 10 when it faces UConn.

“We are very excited about next season, as we have great players coming in to add depth to our overall team,” Union coach Claudia Barcomb said. “We are looking forward to building on the success of this year.

“We have set a goal of making the playoffs, and our returners and incoming freshmen have committed to the training to get us there as a team.”

The Dutchwomen, who went 9-24-1 last year, including 4-18 in ECAC Hockey play, will play eight straight road games between Oct. 24 and Dec. 2. That will include their first four league contests. They open ECACH play at Dartmouth on

Oct. 31.

Union’s first home ECACH game will be against Yale on Dec. 5. That will start a stretch of eight straight home games.

The matchups with Capital Region-rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will be Jan. 23 at Messa and Jan. 24 at Houston Field House.

Defending NCAA-champion Clarkson will visit Messa Feb. 7.
