A 28-year-old man died early Friday after being shot inside a home on Main Street.
Schenectady police said Angel M. Carrion sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest around 1:35 a.m. Friday at 1231 Main St. After being called to the scene, police searched the house and questioned a woman, though they said they have no suspects in custody.
Police declined to provide additional information on their ongoing investigation or the victim.
Ada Lee, who is visiting from Florida and has been staying with her son on Main Street since the beginning of May, said she heard three shots. She said she had been watching TV and was about to go to bed when the shots were fired.
“We thought it was fireworks,” said Julie Stanford, who lives with Bernie Horlacher on Main Street. They said they heard three or four shots, as well as a person screaming.
A woman who lives in the neighborhood but did not want to be identified described the house as “nothing but trouble,” with people sometimes fighting in the street in front of the house.
“It was like a big party,” she said.
Another neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said the shots were so loud she thought they had come from her own front porch. Immediately after hearing the shots, she said she turned off all the lights in her house.
She too described the house where Carrion was shot as a loud place with lots of partying.
“It was bound to happen,” she said of the shooting.
Jean Reeser, another neighbor, said she would also see people fighting outside the house. Reeser, who lives with her fiancé and her 2-year-old granddaughter, said that after hearing about the shooting, her fiancé said that they should move out into the country.
Reeser said her fiancé described the shooting as “too close for comfort.”
Gobin Deonarine is identified as the owner of the home in county property records. He declined comment Friday.
